Ryan racing his Box Stock at Red Bluff - 2009-2010May, 15-2010

Racing is a really funny thing.  It has such great highs, and with just a blink of an eye that can turn into disaster.  That is what happened this night at Cycleland Speedway just South of Chico.  The NVS Motorsports Team arrived!    They felt really great and ready to go!   Jodie had her new driver’s suit and was ready to race!

Ryan had qualified the NVS Motorsports 4D kart for the trophy dash the past two weeks so expectations were high for a great run at qualifying.  The track appeared really fast for the night, however, Ryan was only able to place 13th in qualifications with a time of 11.638.   5 karts were in the 11.2 range with Rico Abreu achieving the fast time of the evening with a 11.200.

Heat races were great for the two NVS drivers.  Ryan started 3rd in the first heat and placed 3rd.  Jodie took her NVS number 11 QRC Kart and dominated the beginner box heat race.

Then the Main Events for the evening:

Jodie Robinson: Jodie started on the front row and did not hesitate when the quad pulled into the infield to start the race.  Jodie was on the gas and was very fast for a beginner.  Everyone in the stands was shocked how fast Jodie was running.  With the race about half over, Jodie started lapping cars — then trouble struck.  The Number 45 car spun in the middle of turn one and two.  Jodie was not expecting this, and went high to avoid the spin.  Jodie got into the cushion and it caught her at full speed and pulled her into the wall.  As Jodie hit she flipped twice.

With only apparent wing damage Jodie was ready to restart.  Jodie went to the back, even though she had lapped a couple of cars.  Jodie picked up the pace again and caught two cars entering the first turn — she went under one car and was hoping to pass the leader — when that car came down to the bottom and Jodie was out of room.     (Jodie advised the crew that something was wrong.  Her car had made hard contact with the 45 car –  they both went all the way up and into the wall  — and Jodie flipped for the second time.  With two times dead on the track Jodie was out of the race.

Ryan Robinson:  Ryan started 13 out of the 23 karts on hand for the intermediate 250 division.  Ryan had a great start.  It was crowded, but on the start Ryan passed Rico Abreu– the fast-time kart.  Then in Turn 4 Ryan got loose and spun the kart.  Ryan went to the back of the pack and started his move forward.  Ryan ‘s kart spun a couple laps later and collected Ryan, so the 4D kart was done for the evening with a very disappointing 23 place finish.  The team is trying to stay in the top 10 in points and have a chance for “Rookie of the Year”.
